On May 29, 2013 AFL Collingwood club president and radio host Eddie McGuire made comments on air, wondering if it would be a good idea to use Aboriginal footballer Adam Goodes to promote a King Kong musical. McGuire's comment came just days after Goodes was called an 'ape' by a spectator during one of his AFL matches.

According to newspaper reports on the day, McGuire apologised to Goodes but said he wouldn't resign over the "two-second slip of the tongue" and denied "racially vilifying anybody".
"I would have liked to have called Eddie a friend before that incident," Goodes said at a Corporate Club Australia breakfast.
"Friends don't make jokes about their friends like that."
Do you agree or disagree with radio host Eddie McGuire that his action was not racial vilification?
I agree with McGuire - I don't think his comment was racial vilification.
There are others that felt the same way, and the debate continued for many weeks as people argued the point; however some, including many Aboriginal people, felt that Eddie's commentary was racial vilification.
